J-1 Intern & Trainee

Host organization document requirements:

• Worker’s Compensation certificate (or proof of exemption if state regulations apply) 
• Host Organization agreement (provided by Stage-Global)
• Trainingplan DS-7002 form (provided by Stage-Global)

Office environment: 

• Ensure sufficient resources, equipment, and trained personnel are available for the specified training/internship program.
• Provide continuous on-site supervision and mentoring by experienced and knowledgeable staff.
• Home office is not allowed 
• If the host organization has less than 25 fulltime employees on site, or less than $3 million in annual revenue, Stage-Global will conduct a site visit as part of the approval process. 

Training and Learning Activities:

• Participants should gain skills, knowledge, and competencies through a structured training plan. This training plan (DS-7002 form) is to be developed prior to program approval, Stage-Global provides support on the development. 
• J-1 Intern and Trainee  must not spend more than 20% of their training program on clerical tasks.
• J-1 Interns or Trainees may not be utilized in unskilled labor roles.

Hours and on site training:

• Host company provides a training of at least 32 hours per week, with a maximum of 40 hours per week 
• Training has to be at a dedicated office, and has to be on site for at least 60% of the time. Remote training allowed for up to 40% of the time. 

J-1 Research Scholar

Host organization document requirements:

• Offer support letter (template provided by Stage-Global): must describe position title, duties with research component, workspace/facilities, start/end dates, salary or funding, and supervision.
• Host organization agreement (provided by Stage-Global)
• Participant resume/CV & passport 
• Additional documents as requested per case: prior visa/status documentation (if applicable), transcripts or diplomas (if requested), proof of funds and any host organization support letters.

Office environment and staff:

• Organization needs at least one full-time employee on location.
• Ensure host environment and position comply with program intent.
• Home office not allowed. 

Research and Program Activities:

• Position must include a research component (broadly defined): original research, data analysis, product/market research and/or development, development of methodologies, experimental work, or similar scholarly inquiry.

J-1 Specialist

Host organization document requirements:

• Offer support letter (template provided by Stage-Global): must describe position title, specialist activities, program duration, salary or funding, and supervision.
• Participant resume/CV.
• Proof of expertise (certifications, specialized training, or professional achievements).
• Host organization agreement (provided by Stage-Global)
• Additional documents as requested per case: passport bio page, prior visa/status documentation (if applicable).

Office environment and staff:

• Ensure host environment and position comply with program intent.
• Specialist activities must focus on consulting, demonstrating specialized skills, or knowledge transfer.

Program Activities:

• Position must involve sharing specialized knowledge, techniques, or skills.
• Notify Stage-Global of any material changes (duties, salary, location) during the program.

J-1 Short Term Scholar

Host organization document requirements:

• Offer support letter (template provided by Stage-Global):  must describe role, planned activities, program duration, salary or funding, and supervision arrangements.
• Participant resume/CV.
• Host organization agreement.
• Additional documents as requested per case: passport bio page, prior visa/status documentation, or proof of expertise.

Office environment and staff:

• Ensure host environment and position comply with program intent.
• Provide a supportive environment for academic or professional engagement.

Program Activities:

• Activities must include lecturing, observing, consulting, or participating in short-term research or professional development.
• Notify Stage-Global of any material changes (duties, salary, location) during the program.
